RCBC maintaining balance for every peso and dollar savings account, with the below-ADB fee and dormancy rules.

Short answer RCBC’s maintaining balance (the required average daily balance, or ADB) depends on the account: none for Basic Savings, iSave and GoSavers, ₱3,000 for Regular Savings ATM, ₱5,000 for Regular Savings Passbook and up to ₱25,000 for Dragon Peso Savings. Falling below it costs ₱500 on a personal peso savings account. RCBC treats a savings account as dormant after two years without a transaction you started.

RCBC’s own FAQ answers “What is the minimum maintaining balance?” with: “This depends on the account type you have” (RCBC ↗).

What happens below the maintaining balance

RCBC’s retail terms say a monthly ADB set by RCBC “must be maintained”, and accounts falling below the required minimum monthly ADB “shall be subject to applicable service charge/s” (RCBC ↗). The fee schedule sets those charges:

Account Below Minimum ADB Fee
Personal peso savings ₱500
Corporate peso savings ₱750
Personal peso current account ₱500
Corporate peso current account ₱750
US dollar savings US$10
Japanese yen savings JPY 1,200

The personal peso savings fee covers SA ATM, SA Passbook, Dragon, Super Earner, SSS Pensioners, Mapua Student ATM and all savings accounts with SWAT facilities, as RCBC’s footnote lists them. Closing a personal peso savings account within 6 months of opening costs ₱500 (RCBC ↗).

The below-balance rules at other banks, and the BSP’s general rules on these charges, are in Maintaining balance by bank.

Basic Savings: the account with no maintaining balance

Feature Basic Savings
Minimum initial deposit ₱100

RCBC says you can open it with ₱100 and a barangay certificate, and that it is meant for people who have no existing RCBC account or no access to facilities that grant government IDs (RCBC ↗).

Dormant accounts

  • When an account turns dormant: a savings account with no client-initiated transaction for two years, or a checking account for one year (RCBC ↗).
  • Below-ADB dormant accounts: “Dormant Accounts that are below monthly maintaining average daily balance (ADB) shall be subject to service charges” and lose any insurance benefit attached to the account.
  • Reactivation: at any RCBC business center, with the documents RCBC asks for and a transaction.
  • After ten years: accounts dormant for more than ten years are reported to the Treasurer of the Philippines for escheat proceedings.
