Maintaining balance by Metrobank account

Maintaining balance is the average daily balance (ADB) Metrobank asks you to keep in the account each month. Pick the account to see what it requires.

Metrobank publishes two different figures for the interest threshold. The product page says “Minimum to Earn Interest: PHP 10,000” (Metrobank ↗), while the deposit accounts hub says “Minimum to earn interest: PHP 2,000” for its savings range (Metrobank ↗). Both are Metrobank’s own pages and we cannot tell which is current.

  • EffectiveMay 2026, in an announcement dated May 22, 2026

The older eSavings terms and conditions page, dated January 26, 2026, still reads “You agree to maintain a minimum average daily balance (ADB) of P2,000 every month” (Metrobank ↗), against the May 2026 announcement above. Metrobank also limits the account: “For now, Metrobank eSavings is available to first-time Metrobank deposit clients.” The same terms allow closure if the account “has a zero balance for 90 calendar days” or is not funded within the first seven calendar days.

Metrobank publishes both amounts. Bring ₱500 if you want the branch visit to end in an open account.

The ₱300 below-minimum fee is printed on the SSS Pensioner Savings page and is published for that account only.

On timing, the eSavings terms describe the two-month pattern the BSP rule requires: the fee applies “if the ADB does not reach the minimum for two consecutive months” (Metrobank ↗).

For its youth, OFW and pensioner accounts, Metrobank’s 2024 sustainability report says they carry “low to zero maintaining balance, no dormancy fees” (Metrobank ↗). That is a report, not a fee schedule, so treat it as Metrobank’s description of the products rather than a published fee line.

When Metrobank calls an account dormant

Metrobank’s general banking terms set two clocks: accounts inactive for “one (1) year for Checking Accounts and two (2) years for Savings Accounts” are classified as dormant, and once dormant you cannot transact and the account earns no interest “even if the Account meets the required ADB” (Metrobank ↗). Under BSP rules a dormancy fee cannot start before the fifth year after the last activity and cannot exceed ₱30 a month (BSP ↗).

The “service charge” line on your statement

Metrobank’s general banking terms set out the authority behind a “service charge” line. Section 13.4 gives the bank the right to collect “all applicable service charges, penalties, taxes, and other bank fees” that the account incurs, naming account maintenance, pre-termination and “failure to maintain the required ADB” as posted on its website, and adds that “You authorize us to deduct these fees and charges from the Account automatically” (Metrobank ↗).

So the line can be any of those charges, and matching it to one means comparing the amount against the published schedule and your average daily balance for the two months before it appeared. If it does not match, the same terms set the deadline: Section 6.4 requires you to “file a written complaint within 30 calendar days from the statement date” for an error, inconsistency or unfamiliar transaction in the statement of account. Anything that assigns a particular transaction code to a particular fee would be our inference, not Metrobank’s, so we leave it out.
