GCash to Metrobank: send with account details or a bank QR and check the destination before confirming.

A GCash to Metrobank transfer uses GCash’s local-bank InstaPay route and its ₱10 sending fee. The recipient can supply account details or generate a QR in the Metrobank app for an active peso deposit account. Check the destination before confirming: Metrobank says InstaPay institutions validate the account number and are not required to match the beneficiary’s name against it.

Short answer In GCash, choose Transfer then Local, select Metrobank and enter the recipient’s details. For the QR route, scan or upload the bank QR supplied by the recipient. Review the account and amount before confirmation. A Metrobank app sending limit is not the limit for a transfer initiated in GCash.

Keep enough wallet balance for the recipient amount and the fee displayed by GCash. For example, ₱2,000 plus the published ₱10 fee totals ₱2,010. That is an arithmetic illustration, not a promise about a transaction that has not been quoted by the app.

The recipient does not need to use Metrobank’s own Send Money flow to receive this transfer. That flow describes money leaving a Metrobank account. Its sending allowances should not be applied to the GCash side.

Generate the recipient’s Metrobank QR

Metrobank documents several ways to reach its QR function. From the dashboard, the recipient can use QR in the bottom navigation or the Generate or Scan QR code shortcut. From an account overview, the bank lists Generate QR.

The recipient selects the receiving account and supplies an alias. The bank says an amount and notes are optional. The generated code can be shared or downloaded, subject to the device permissions needed by the app.

Metrobank says it currently generates these receiving QR codes for active peso deposit accounts. It does not generate them for foreign-currency accounts, credit cards or Yazz prepaid cards. Confirm that the QR belongs to the account for this payment; a saved image from an earlier payment may identify a different destination.

Steps

  1. Obtain the recipient’s Metrobank account details or their generated bank QR.
  2. Open GCash, then Transfer → Local.
  3. For manual entry, select Metrobank and enter the amount, account name and account number.
  4. For a QR payment, tap Scan/Upload Bank QR, scan or upload the code and check the details automatically filled in.
  5. Tap Send Money, review the destination, amount and fee, then confirm.
  6. Save the transaction reference and have the recipient check their Metrobank account for the credit.

A recipient name is useful for checking who you intend to pay. It is not a substitute for checking the account number. Metrobank’s InstaPay help explicitly says that sending and receiving institutions validate the number and need not match the beneficiary name against it.

Warning Review the destination before sending. Metrobank says an InstaPay transaction cannot be cancelled once the account is debited. A completed transfer to an incorrect account requires coordination; do not assume the bank can automatically take the funds back.

Limits belong to the sender’s profile and service

GCash’s current limits page gives Fully Verified adults a ₱1,000,000 wallet cap, a ₱1,000,000 monthly outgoing allowance and a ₱500,000 daily outgoing allowance. These totals cover different measures. A wallet cap is the amount held at one time; an outgoing allowance is money sent or spent over the stated period.

A particular service can still set a smaller transaction limit. Do not interpret a profile’s ₱500,000 daily allowance as the amount available in one InstaPay transfer. Check the amount accepted by the GCash sending screen and the allowance remaining after other spending.

The official GCash page also says limits are shared across linked accounts under one customer profile. They are not multiplied by the number of mobile accounts.

See GCash limits, InstaPay and PESONet for the distinctions between wallet, rail and institution rules.

How long it takes

  1. Normal processing: GCash describes bank transfers through InstaPay as instant.
  2. Problem detected: GCash says an SMS identifies whether money will return to the wallet or be credited to the recipient.
  3. Return to the wallet: the published troubleshooting window is 1–2 business days.
  4. Credit to the recipient: the published window is 3–5 business days.

The page excludes weekends and holidays from those business-day windows. It says a failed transfer’s amount and fee are refunded. That is a failed-transfer rule, not confirmation that every temporarily missing credit has failed.

If money has not returned after two business days, the page directs the sender to Transactions → select transaction → Need Help? → I didn’t receive the money. Keep the reference and ask the recipient to check the receiving account as well. Do not repeat the payment simply to test whether the route works.
