PESONet vs InstaPay: the Philippines’ two bank transfer rails compared on speed, limits, cut-offs and fees.
Short answer PESONet vs InstaPay comes down to speed and size. InstaPay credits the money in real time, 24/7, but caps each transfer at ₱50,000. PESONet has no scheme cap, but it moves money in batches on banking days only, so it arrives the same banking day only if you send before your bank’s cut-off.

Which rail fits which transfer
The rules of the two schemes decide most cases for you:
- More than ₱50,000 in one transfer: only PESONet takes it, up to your bank’s own cap. With InstaPay you would need several transfers, each up to ₱50,000 and all inside your bank’s daily limit.
- Money that has to arrive tonight, on a Sunday or on a holiday: only InstaPay runs then. A PESONet transfer sent on a weekend or holiday is processed on the next banking day.
- Sending from GCash or the Maya wallet: InstaPay only. The BSP fee summary marks PESONet sending as not available for individuals at G-Xchange (GCash) and Maya Philippines (the Maya wallet). Maya Bank, the Maya savings account, does send by PESONet.
- Receiving into GCash: both work. GCash says InstaPay is usually instant but may take up to 2 hours at busy times, and PESONet arrives within 1 banking day if sent before 3:00 PM (GCash ↗ · ).
Tip For PESONet, the deadline that matters is your own bank’s cut-off, not the scheme’s 4:00 PM cycle. BDO processes PESONet sent on or before 3:00 PM within the day (BDO ↗); BPI credits the same banking day for transfers made by 4:00 PM (BPI ↗). Every bank’s cut-off is on PESONet cut-off times.
How long it takes
- InstaPayreal timePPMI says the recipient gets the money “almost instantly”, on any day and at any hour (PPMI ↗).
- PESONet, sent before your bank’s cut-off on a banking daysame banking dayPPMI lists credit to the beneficiary by 1:00 PM, 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM for the 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 4:00 PM cut-offs (PPMI ↗).
- PESONet, sent after the cut-off, on a weekend or on a holidaynext banking day (PPMI ↗).

How much moves on each rail
InstaPay carries far more transfers; PESONet carries far larger ones. In May 2026, the latest month both BSP series cover, the two rails moved similar peso values.
| May 2026 | InstaPay | PESONet |
|---|---|---|
| Transfers | 750,801,808 | 10,607,538 |
| Value | ₱1,465.16 billion | ₱1,327.46 billion |
| Value divided by transfers | ₱1,951 | ₱125,143 |
The last row is zpeso’s own division of BSP’s value by BSP’s transfer count, not a BSP figure.
Steps
The rail is a choice you make inside your bank app when sending to another bank or e-wallet. In the BPI app, for example (BPI ↗):
- Log in to the BPI app or BPI online.
- Go to Move money, then Transfer money, then To another bank / e-wallet.
- Choose your source account and the recipient’s bank, then enter the recipient’s account details and the amount.
- Select the transfer service, InstaPay or PESONet.
- Review the details and the total amount to be deducted, then confirm and approve.
Warning PPMI says a PESONet transfer, once processed, is generally final and cannot be reversed (PPMI ↗), and InstaPay money lands in real time. Check the account name and number before you confirm, and report a wrong transfer only through your own bank’s app or hotline.
