A BPI open account online application runs through the BPI app for eligible new deposit customers.
The account available to new clients is #SaveUp. It can be opened without visiting a branch when the applicant meets the eligibility and identity-check requirements.
Short answer Download the BPI app, choose the option to open a new deposit account, enter your details, verify the one-time PINs sent to your Philippine mobile number and email, then complete the ID and selfie checks. BPI says the online route is available in the app, not on a laptop or tablet. #SaveUp currently requires a ₱1 initial deposit and has a ₱0 minimum monthly average daily balance.

BPI open account online requirements
| Requirement | What BPI says |
|---|---|
| Age | At least 18 |
| Residence | Resident of the Philippines |
| Account type | Individual #SaveUp account |
| ID | At least one valid Philippine government-issued ID |
| Contact details | Valid local Philippine mobile number and valid email address |
| Device | A phone that can run the BPI app and capture the ID and selfie |
| FATCA status | The app route is not available to customers who are FATCA reportable; BPI directs them to a branch |
The bank still decides whether to approve an application. Its #SaveUp terms say BPI may validate the information and documents submitted through the app and applies electronic know-your-customer checks.
IDs accepted in the app
BPI’s online-account page lists these IDs for the mobile application:
- National ID;
- driver’s license;
- passport;
- Postal ID;
- SSS ID;
- PRC ID;
- UMID.
The National ID route can pull details from the applicant’s National ID record after the live selfie. If there is no matching National ID record or the liveness check fails, the app can ask the applicant to continue with another accepted physical ID, scan it clearly and take another selfie.
BPI’s broader branch account-opening requirements include more identification documents. That longer branch list should not be treated as a promise that every ID will appear in the app.
How to open the account
BPI’s current #SaveUp instructions break the application into these practical stages:
- Download the BPI app from an official app marketplace.
- Select Create new account, then choose the option to open a deposit account.
- Confirm your nationality and accept the account terms and privacy statement.
- Enter your mobile number and email address.
- Enter the one-time PINs sent to those contact details.
- Complete the personal information requested in the app.
- Take a live selfie for identity verification.
- Review the details pulled from the National ID record, or switch to another accepted ID if needed.
- Add any remaining information, then create the username and password.
A successful application is opened after BPI validates the information and submitted documents. The bank says it sends the account details and a welcome email when the account has been opened.
Do not use a link sent by an unknown message or caller. Start from the official BPI app listing or the BPI open-account page.
#SaveUp deposit and balance figures
| Item | Current BPI figure |
|---|---|
| Required initial deposit | ₱1 |
| Required minimum monthly ADB | ₱0 |
| Required daily balance to earn interest | ₱5,000 |
| Interest rate per year | 0.0925% |
| Initial account limit | ₱30,000 until BPI completes verification |
| Debit card | ₱200 at a BPI branch |
BPI says the initial ₱30,000 account limit is automatically waived after it completes verification. The limit is different from the minimum balance: #SaveUp has no required monthly maintaining balance under the current table.
The ₱5,000 figure is also separate. It is the daily balance needed to earn the listed interest, not the amount required to keep the account open. See the full BPI maintaining balance comparison for the difference between #SaveUp and the bank’s other savings accounts.
Rates, card fees and account conditions can change. Check the figures again on BPI’s product page before applying or funding the account.
Can the application be done on a laptop?
No. BPI’s FAQ says the account-opening feature is available only through the BPI app. A laptop or tablet can be used to sign in to BPI online after the online-banking account has been created, but not to complete the initial application.
This matters when a third-party page offers a desktop form. The bank’s own instructions point new applicants to the app and require the phone camera for ID and selfie capture.
When a branch is still needed
The online route does not cover every applicant or situation. A branch may still be needed when:
- the applicant is FATCA reportable;
- the applicant is not eligible for an individual #SaveUp account;
- BPI cannot complete the identity check in the app;
- the applicant has a BPI credit card but no deposit account, which BPI’s FAQ currently sends to a branch;
- the applicant wants a different deposit product or account ownership type;
- the applicant wants the optional debit card, which BPI says is obtained at a branch for the listed fee.
Bring the documents required for the intended account, because branch requirements can differ from the mobile #SaveUp route.
Funding and deposit protection
After opening, the account can be funded by transfer or deposit. The ₱1 figure is the required initial deposit, but a larger balance may be necessary for the way you plan to use the account and for any interest eligibility.
BPI states that deposits are insured by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation up to the legal limit. The current PDIC maximum is ₱1 million per depositor, per bank, subject to the rules for account ownership and eligible deposits. Our PDIC deposit insurance guide explains how single and joint accounts are counted.
